About Bhujodi

Bhujodi weaving, a craft from the Kutch region of Gujarat, India, has a history rooted in a symbiotic relationship between the Vankar (weaver) community and the Rabari (nomadic cattle-herding) community, dating back centuries. The Vankars, originally from Rajasthan's Meghwal community, migrated to Kutch and developed a unique weaving style, creating blankets and textiles for the Rabaris, who provided the cotton and wool.

Perhaps the highlight of the weave is its treasury of fine motifs that bear names such as dholkihathivakhiyo, etc. Created with the extra-weft technique, these designs represent the cultural mores of the weave’s wearer community. The fabric is further augmented by a smattering of intricate embroidery and abhla (mirror work) inlay.
